So, I write...among other things. As trite as it is to say, it's a passion...well, obsession really. But I have a good excuse, honest. I thought for years that I had a God complex; that I simply desired control of every situation. As I've gotten older, I realize very poignantly that I never once actually felt in control, nor was control over everything what I truly wanted (indeed, loss of control in many instances can be quite rewarding). What I wanted was -complete- control; control over every single aspect and event of a world of my own creation. Writing provides that feeling. I love creating more than mere control though, otherwise I wouldn't still be drawn to other art forms so very much. And the more I write, the more I feel like my creations tend to write themselves. It feels like control, but ultimately it's more like having my own personal muse guiding me to write the lives of these characters. So it seem to me now that, rather than having a God complex, I have a Creation complex. It stands to reason when I really think about it. If I do not create something, whether a good photo, a poem, a sketch, or a written world with my characters inhabiting it, I make for a very unhappy Vindblain. So I create.

Well, someone very dear to me shares this obsession, and recognized it in me. They then commissioned one of their, and my, favorite artists, Eve Ventrue xxkalixx.deviantart.com/, to bring one of my creations to life. Here is the result:

:thumb277395431:

I am in total awe. It is an utterly indescribable feeling to see one you my creations come to life so vividly, so stunningly, that I fear I can never express just how moved I am, or how grateful. Aura, of all my characters, is my favorite. My heart aches for her when I write. I had to share this because Eve's work, and the gift to me is simply too special not to. If you like Eve's rendition of Aura, please show your support by adding her as a favorite, +watching, suggestion daily deviations, featuring her, etc. She is an amazing artist and truly deserves the recognition.

I got tagged with this by biggest fan poisonplum poisonplum.deviantart.com/ <insert glare> so I must oblige with the answers to the following questions, and, in turn, forward this wannabe chain letter to 10 more poor souls of my choosing (you know who you are. And if you don't, then check below) <insert total obliviousness to the glares of others here>

Here are the rules:

1 - You must post these rules.
2 - Each person must post 10 things about themselves on their journal.
3 - Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, then create ten new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4 - You have to choose 10 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
5 - Go to their pages and tell them you have tagged her/him.
6 - No tag backs!!
7 - You have to reply here with a link to your response

10 things about myself:
1) I prefer writing to all other art
2) I am allergic to both beer and wine
3) I hate cities
4) I hate artificial light
5) I love plants and nature with a passion
6) I love solitude, but I love the idea of sharing it with someone (make sense of that one if you can)
7) I smoke a pipe (Vanilla Black Cavendish blend), though not habitually
8) I am addicted to deviantArt
9) I am a digital packrat, but not a physical packrat
10) I have a creation complex in that if I do not create something on a regular basis then I get quite cranky

Questions from poisonplum:

1. What came first: The chicken or the egg? The nugget

2. If you had to give up one body part, what would it be and why?
My appendix. It's just taking up valuable storage space.

3. What would you do if a mysterious man came to your home and gave you a letter from Hogwarts? Tell him to return to sender and resubmit via certified owl.

4. If you could choose one anime (or tv show/movie) to bring to life (make it become reality) what would it be?
Amagami SS or KimiKiss (manga). I love the idea of being able to live out multiple options of the same life (because one life simple isn't enough!)

5. Have you ever been in love?
Quite.

6. Did you have a favorite stuffed animal when you were little?
I still love my stuffed Little Foot from the Land Before Time (and I still cry at the end of the movie).

7. Do you like my art?
I like the artist.

8. Do you believe in ghosts or other supernatural beings?
Yes. I believe life is the extension of the Creator's power, and each living being has the choice to return to the Creator or not.

9. Would you want to meet me in real life?
Yes, though I would not leave my drink unattended around you ;)

10. Taco, hamburger, or salad?
Taco salad!

10 questions for those tagged:

1) What is your favorite art form or media?
2) Of your own works, which is your favorite?

5) Of my poems, which is your favorite?
6) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you move?
7) Does my deviantID make me look pretentious?

9) What is your dream job?
10) What would you do with $1 billion in gold?

A Lyrical Snob

4 min read
I have been submitting my dA works to groups of late, in a shameless attempt to share my stuff with a broader audience. Setting aside the dirty feelings of prostitution, I decided to spend some time perusing the works of others. In the process, I discovered something about myself. While looking through nature photographs, I feel awed and impressed, and like I have a long way to go to create photos even half so beautiful. On the other hand, while reading through the works of poetry and prose available, I found myself hyper-critical and down right snooty in the way I viewed the works of others. In my arrogance, I read each word through the vignette of my nasal passage without even realizing it until I almost stopped reading for lack of enjoyment. When I finally realized just how acrimonious I was being, I was able to garner some pleasure from what I read. I particularly enjoyed avery-falanor.deviantart.com/a… which I thought worth sharing. So, what have I learned? I am nothing less than a poetry parvenu. I even began snubbing some of my own pieces that I am less proud of, while positively wallowing in what I see as the majesty of my other works.
Which brings me to my second point. I have not written a poem in nearly a year, largely due to the fact that I am busy writing other things on a much grander scale. Nonetheless, I dearly miss the concise beauty and catharsis wrought by a well written poem; one with a consistent meter, and compelling imagery. Which brings me to my final point, which is directly related to my first point. I am a shameless snob. ^_^

HDR a go!

I finally took the time to learn how to do HDR photography from my D7000 to Photoshop CS5 today and I have mixed feelings about the results, but am otherwise optimistic about this exciting new tool in my arsenal. I can't believe the level of detail I can pull from an image now! It's well worth the extra hassle of messing with settings on the camera for every triad of images. My only (yes, only one) complaint is that I feel like I am sacrificing some of the color control offered for standard NEF images in exchange for that light and shadow detail. Maybe I can learn how to combine both tools in the future.

On another exciting note, I received an invitation to have one of my photos (vindblain.deviantart.com/art/S…)  featured in a very cool group. Everyone be sure to check out industrialart.deviantart.com/
They also feature one of my all time favorite DA artists, Valentina Kallias, so it is hugely flattering to be included! valentinakallias.deviantart.co…
Thank you #industrialart! I look forward to seeing the future photos in your collection!

Growing up, I used to have a secret love for Winter. The cold, overcast days and long, quiet nights left me feeling deeply moved and imaginative. My creativity would surge in the light of the skies unique to winter eves. The dead seasons still have that hold for me, though I have come to learn that it is not the colors of Autumn, nor the quiet of Winter that hold my heart. I now know it was a love born of longing, unrequited until I again felt the kiss of Spring's lips on mine. The creative urges were born only of the emptiness left in the wake of Yule, a yearning for the promise of warmth that lingered just beyond the horizon. Even now, surrounded by the late summer blooms of Amethyst Falls and Honeysuckle, I feel remorse for what will soon be lost, and yet look onward with eagerness to the rebirth that will come with Winter's departure. Winter's embrace is nothing more than the dream of absent life. I long to keep summer's hand in mine, to smell the aroma of flora from her skin, and to kiss the blush of blossoms on her cheek.
